The 2013 Season Opener has finally arrived at the Murray County Speedway

The wait is over! After two weeks, Mother Nature decided to let the races go as planned at the Murray County Speedway. After being forced to wait two weeks, the racers were itching to get back out on the track. Opening night would feature the Murray County Speedway Pure Stock Clash. Extra money would be put up on the line for the pure stock drivers to compete for.  Opening night looked to be an exciting one.

Hegstad Equipment IMCA Sport Compacts
The IMCA Sport Compacts were first to take the track. Nikkya Betz would jump out to the early race lead. Stephanie Forsberg quickly took second and looked to reel in Betz. Forsberg is the defending champion in the sport compacts. However, Betz had started to pull away when Forsberg was making her way to second. Forsberg was able to close the gap and began to challenge for the lead. The two would battle right to the finish line. When all was said and done, Nikkya Betz was able to hold on and take the feature win.

Staab Power Washing Pure Stocks
Next up was the pure stock clash. Brent Stabb, the defending champion of the pure stocks, would jump out to the early race lead. The 44 car of Travis Radke would quickly begin to challenge and take the lead. Radke would begin to pull away, but the 87 of David Reisdorfer would quickly close the gap and begin to challenge for the lead. The 2 would continue to battle for the remainder of the race, but a late caution put that on hold. On the restart, Staab would make it a three way battle for the lead. The battle would be determined at the finish line. Travis Radke would go on to take the feature win and Reisdorfer would take second in an exciting finish.

Hadley Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks
After an exciting Pure Stock race, the Hobby Stocks looked to continue the excitement. Cory Probst, the defending champion in the hobby stocks, jumped out to the early lead and would quickly begin to pull away. Brad Halbur in the 21H would slowly begin to reel in Probst. Eric Gillette in the 12 and Matt Hanson in the 25H would begin to battle for second. The three would continue to battle for a majority of the race. However, contact between the three resulted in Gillette rolling his car. Gillette came out of the wreck alright. The contact would take all three drivers out of the race. On the restart, Probst would maintain the lead and go on to take the feature win.

RH Sealcoating IMCA Sport Modifieds
Next were the IMCA Sport Modifieds. Adam Ecker, defending champion for the Sport Modifieds, would jump out to the early race lead. Randy Hook in the 17 would get up to second and look to challenge for the lead. However, Ecker had pulled away from the pack. A mis-step from Ecker allowed Hook to close the gap and begin to challenge for the lead, but a late caution would send Hook to the rear. On the restart, Ecker would maintain the lead. No one would be able to catch Ecker and he would go on to take the feature win.

Car Toyz Race Wraps / Sign Pro IMCA Street Stocks
The Street Stocks would finish off opening night. The 83 of Jim Richert would jump out to the early race lead. After an early caution, Richert would hold on to the lead.  However the 23x of Matt Grabow would begin to challenge for the lead. Chris Palsrok in the X would also join that battle. However, late caution would end that battle. On the restart, Richert would maintain the lead. Grabow would once again battle for the lead. This time the battle would be uninterrupted and go right to the finish line. When all was said and done it was Richert who would take the feature win.

The IMCA Northstar Touring Series, sponsored by Redline Racing Parts, will be at the Murray County Speedway on June 14th. Many of the top IMCA drivers from Minnesota and Iowa are competing this summer at five southern Minnesota tracks. Also this night, will be a special event for all the ladies attending the races.
