A Special night of racing at the Murray County Speedway

It was another perfect night to have races this past Friday. The micro sprints were able to join us for the first time this year. All of the racers and race fans came together to support a great cause. They came together to support the Dominick Bruns Memorial Fund. The fund was started in 2008 after the death of the couples son, Dominick. The missions of the fund are to prevent SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and rebreathing through the education of new parents and families in the area, to better the lives of infants, children, and families through community involvement, and finally to preserve the memory and legacy of Dominick Joseph Bruns. Through this they have already helped educate numerous families and continue to make a difference in the community.

Hegstad Equipment IMCA Sport Compacts
The sport compacts were first to take the track. Stephanie Forsberg jumped out to the early race lead. Nikkya Betz jumped out to second and began to challenge for the lead. However, problems for Betz would bring out the caution and send her to the back of the pack. On the restart, Forsberg maintained the lead. Betz was able to quickly make her way from the rear up to second place. Contact in turn one would bring out the caution and end Forsbergs night. This would surrender the lead to Betz. However, Betz would go to the pit area to get work done, so Shaun Madden became the race leader. On the restart, Madden would maintain the lead. Troubles for Madden late in the race made it a three car race for the lead. Betz and Joehnck would challenge Madden for the race lead. The fight would go right to the line. Jon Joehnck was able to pass both cars and take home his first feature win on the year.

Staab Power Washing Pure Stocks
Next were the pure stocks. The car count was very low again, but hopefully more cars will join us in the future. Brent Staab would end up taking the feature win.

Hadley Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks
Seventeen cars made the call for the hobby stock feature. Matt Hanson jumped out to the early race lead. Cory Probst made his way up to second and looked to challenge for the lead. Hanson was able to hold off Probst for a little bit, but Probst eventually took over the lead. After an early caution, Probst kept the lead. Neil Forsberg got up to second and looked to reel in Probst. Probst had opened up a rather big gap, but a caution would tighten things up. On the restart, Probst maintained the lead again. After another late caution, Probst kept the lead and again pulled away from the field. Probst went on to take the feature win.

RH Sealcoating IMCA Sport Modifieds
Next were the sport modifieds. Fourteen cars made the call for the feature race. Tom Brown jumped out to the early lead. Adam Ecker made his was up to second and looked to challenge for the lead. After an early caution, Ecker would take the race lead. After another early caution, Ecker maintained the lead. Ecker quickly distanced himself from the field. However, a late caution tightened things up. A series of late cautions would set up a green-white-checkered finish. On the restart, Ecker would maintain the lead. Ecker pulled away again and went on to take home the feature win.

Car Toyz Race Wrapz / Sign Pro IMCA Street Stock
The Dominick Bruns memorial stock car race ended out the night. Seventeen cars made the call to fight for the 1,000 prize. Troy Winter jumped out to the early race lead. Jim Larson made his way to second and began to challenge for the lead. Elijah Zevenbergen got to third and quickly joined in the battle for the lead. Zevenbergen was able to get around Larson and looked to pass Winter for the lead. Winter was able to keep Zevenbergen back for a few laps, but eventually Zevenbergen passed for the lead. After a series of cautions, Zevenbergen maintained the lead. Chris Palsrok got up to second and began to challenge for the lead. After another caution, Zevenbergen would keep the lead. However, contact on the front stretch would end Zevenbergens night and bring out the caution. Zevenbergens exit gave the lead to Palsrok. On the restart, Palsrok kept the lead. Ken Tietz began to challenge for the lead. The two drivers would constantly swap positions which set up an exciting finish. The fight would go right to the line. Chris Palsrok was able to hold on and take the feature win by a nose. Tietz would get second.

The races for July 26th are sponsored by DeBoer Chevrolet of Edgerton. The IMCA North Star Touring series will be back in town as well.
