2022 Season and the 30th Year of racing at the Murray County Speedway

As the beginning of the 2022 season is only a few weeks away, the Board of Directors of the Speedway has made great strides to have a great season planned for the Speedway.

The Board of Directors for the 2022 season are: Aaron Betz-President, Trey Davis-Vice President, Willie Sanow-Director, Marcus Schweigert-Director and Dustin Veldhuisen-Director. The Speedway will be racing again under the IMCA racing sanction, with the following classes: Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts. Also racing each week will be the MCRA Bombers. There will be several other classes of cars racing during the season: the HotRod Touring series, the Limited Late Models, the Late Model Street Stocks and the IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars. The Board has made big plans this off season, to bring the best, most enjoyable Friday night of racing to Southwest Minnesota. As the Speedway begins its 30th Season, several special events have already been planned. The Speedway will remember a very popular member of our racing community with the Jason Baune Memorial race for the Sport Compacts, with the first-place prize being $1,028 (Jason’s car number when he raced was 28). The Murray County Fair always brings a festive atmosphere during the third week of August. For the first time, the Speedway will be hosting the Minnesota Dirt Nationals on October 7th & 8th, will also include the Tri-State Late Models. The top five classes will be racing for 1st place prize of $2,000.

The Speedway utilize two very unique items to gives the fans all the information possible to follow, from the lineup of the races, to the actual running order during the race, lap times and the finishing order of the race, all from the comfort of viewing this from their smartphones. The first part of this is, The MyRacePass app, which is the “Ultimate Racing Resource” that brings all racing related content together and distributes it back to the race fans. The app is available for either Android or Apple phones. The second item that is used is the MyLaps Sport Timing transponder that each car will carry. The transponder will be used to score, as each car crosses an electronic loop that is buried into the finish line of the track. The transponder uses GPS timing to determine lap times and which car crosses the finish line first.

The Murray County Speedway is located on the southwest corner of the Murray County Fairgrounds in Slayton. The existence of the racetrack goes back to the 1930’s when there was a 1/2 mile horse racing track. Later, the track was converted to a 3/8 mile track. All race cars are parked on the outside of the track, to give the race fans, the best view of the track during the race. There are two concession stands for the grandstands. The main concession stand on the south end offers many different food items from burgers, pizza, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, water and pop. The snack shack on the north end of the grandstand will offer pop, water, popcorn and candy.
Racing at the track is on Friday nights from mid-May to end of August. The Grandstands opens at 6:00pm, hot laps is at 7:15pm, with racing beginning at 7:30pm. Admission to the grandstand for Adults is $12, Students, age 11-15 is $8 and kids 10 years and younger is FREE.
